2013 Met Gala - Punk: Chaos to Couture. Best and worst of the night

My pick of the night would be either Kerry Washington or Jessica Alba as both looked lady like and stylish without going OTT.  I love Kerry's long gloves and the purple compliments her skin tone.

Close up: Jessica's hair and earring cuff are cool!

Also, I love this pic of Joan Smalls and Tom Ford, very stylish!

I don't always like Anne Hathaway's style but I almost didn't recognise her here. I liked her punkish hair style and the dress really suits her and goes down well with the theme.

Sienna Miller's spiked jacket is on trend and looks great on her:

Worst no doubt goes to Kim Kardashian. What is that dress she is wearing? Yuk!  It's like a floral carpet or wallpaper with matching gloves. Her whole body is engulfed in this. Sorry but she shouldn't even be there.

Notably absent was stylish It girl of the moment, Rihanna...

I'm finally showing my blog some love and attention ...with an update to what's in my makeup bag

After a very long and over extended break from posting, I decided to start this up again after gaining interest in Polyvore about 2 weeks ago and also starting up a Pinterest account. Hopefully I'll actually stick to entering new posts now! Anyway, here is my overdue update starting with what's inside my makeup bag, with a brief review of each of the products shown. Basically I've tried many cosmetic brands and the one that I'm loving right now is Benefit. You can buy Benefit from Myer if you live in Australia but I don't think it's available in NZ yet.

Here is the Benefit makeup bag I scored for free when I purchased my products from Myer (the girl at the counter was really lovely and threw it in for me since I was purchasing a few items. She also gave me some testers for "Fake Up" concealer in shade Medium 02. I have yet to test these out).

I love the cute drawings of their products

Inside - has two zipped compartments which are easy to wipe down if anything gets spilt in it.  Note my Clarisonic Pro with large head for skin exfoliation and Gilette pink razor are included as I use these on most days.

And here is some of the Benefit makeup I use daily, thrown in is Bobbi Brown's gel liner in Black Ink. I thought I would try it out since everyone is always raving about it but to be honest I think I prefer liquid liners over gels as I have oily lids and the gels don't stay on my eyelids as well as the liquids tend to.

The Foundation I'm using is Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow SPF25 in the shade "I'm all the rage Beige". I find this gives good coverage and brightens up my face as I am quite pale skinned.

The Concealer is Boi~ing in Shade 03. I can't live without this stuff. It covers all my pigmentation and pimples very well. Also I cannot live without the Porefessional. It's a balm that minimises the appearance of pores and I find it also helps set my concealer better.

The Hoola Bronzer is very nice for bronzing cheek-bones and gives a sun-kissed glow to your face.

Hervana blush is nice but I guess it's no different to any other blush on the market, however I do love the little box it comes in with the mirror and brush.

Now the real star of the show is the mascara..."They're real" is THE BEST MASCARA I've ever used in my life. It really lifts your lashes and makes them appear longer. The bristles are quite small and hard but they do the job very well. If you haven't tried it then give it a go.

The black kit is "Browzings" and I use this for darkening my eyebrows. Again, this is another must have item for my daily makeup ritual.

Below is the link to the Benefit website. They have some cool tutorials on there for applying their products...

Inside my makeup bag right now

My sis works for Gucci and she gave me this super cute make-up bag for Christmas.  I take it everywhere with me but sometimes its a bit too full and I have to jam the zipper shut. The cool thing is my make-up bag also matches my Gucci "Abbey" tote that i use as my everyday bag.

 Ok, so here's what's inside...

Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Warm Beige with Pale Yellow Sheer Finish Pressed Powder
Benefit Browzings Kit in Dark
NARS Orgasm blush
MAC eyeshadow pot in Mulch
Chanel Precision Lip Liner in Natural (34)
NARS lipstick in Sexual Healing
Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy (54)
Chanel Rouge Coco in Perle (02)
Nivea Pearly Shine lipbalm stick
Unknown lip balm stick - natural
Clearasil Rapid Action Pimple Cream
Loreal Touche Magique Illuminating Concealer
Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara and Le Crayon Khol eyeliner in Noir
Body Shop eyeshadow in 37 and Eyeshader in White 05
Lady Jayne comb
Scissors, Eyelash Curler and Browcomb
I don't really know why I carry so many lipsticks around with me that are all similar in appearance but that's just what I do! lol. As you can see, I don't stick to one particular brand either. I suppose the things I can't live without in the bag would have to be the Lancome mascara with matching eyeliner, Benefit browkit, Bobbi Brown concealer kit, Nivea lipshine and eyelash curler.

What can't you live without? I've sort of become dependent on these products and the Nars blush is almost finished. I can see why Orgasm is such a popular shade, it really is a winning product.

TGIF! FRIDAY FASHION FIX

I was on Facebook and saw a link to www.ssense.com - the dress pictured is by Alexander Wang. What do you think? I love it, the draping and color is very chic! I've only just become a fan of Mr Wang's work recently. I totally love this model's look, she is like a little geisha doll....This site has some cool stuff but it's pretty expensive designer gear. The shoes pictured are awesome too. I think Mr Wang is most famous for his coco mini studded handbag, which so many girls seem to own these days. I'm not so crazy about it, it looks a bit like an upside down hedgehog! I suppose it's not really my style and that's probably why I don't dig it that much. Now I'm asking myself, well, what is my style then? I'll come back to that at a later date since I need some time to figure this out...

I was watching Project Runway last night on Arena (Season 8, Ep. 6) where the designers had to take an ugly bridesmaids dress and turn it into something fashionable. I have to say that the judging panel must have been smoking crack when they voted Michael's design the winner. Even though the other designers were being wankers about Michael C, I still agree with them that his design was not the best on the night. Check it out here:

The dress is so ugly I don't even want to post it or it will ruin the beautiful image above.

I entered a competition tonight on Beautylish.com to win a bottle of Chanel's latest nail polish, Mimosa.

It's a pretty cool shade and it would look fab with that Wang dress. Hope I win it, i love winning stuff...it would be even better if I won the lottery I entered at Boystown.com.au (draw 406). That house is the stuff dreams are made of! Wish me luck puuuhhhhhlease!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first blog, my first post and some thoughts for the day

Hey everyone. I'm Monique and welcome to my new blog "Chiwi Doll".
That's me in Paris (2008)

I'm 30 years old and I thought of starting my own blog about 10 years ago but I never got around to it. Yesterday, I became a member of Beautylish.com and saw some of the cool blogs created by the other members which were totally inspiring and I thought to myself, well why not?

So the main reason for my blog is to post my thoughts about fashion, beauty and life in general but with an emphasis on style, makeup and all the girly stuff I mull over daily.  I studied law at university and when I think about why I did that instead of a makeup or beauty course, I'm totally puzzled.  I definitely would have been better suited in the beauty or fashion industry.  Anyway, life is too short for regrets and at least this blog will allow me to explore and share with others my love of fashion and beauty products!

Being new to all of this, I'm just going to start with one thing that has been on my mind in the last few days... whether to buy the Clarisonic Plus/Pro from Amazon.com.  I reviewed some videos on Youtube and most reviewers said it was well worth buying. The reason for my interest is twofold. First, I hate spending so much time at night removing my makeup and even after wiping continuously, still not getting all the traces of make-up off completely.  Secondly, I've used the Neutrogena Wave for some time now and have found that it's pretty good at minimizing the pores on my nose.  I use it in the mornings only and just on my nose. I have some large pores on my nose and if I don't use the Wave (plus every so often de-clogging with a pore-strip) then I get a build-up and my skin on my nose gets clogged. My foundation also comes out looking all bumpy (if that makes sense?).  Anyway, I think I'm going to purchase the Clarisonic this weekend and can't wait to see if it really works.  I'll also post a review on Beautylish.com in due course.

Just as an aside, I went to the gym tonight and did about 40 minutes of cardio including some light weight training.  I love the way exercise makes me feel, it relieves the tension and stress from sitting at a computer all day (look what I'm doing now, even after leaving the office!). I've got to remember to stretch each and every time I train too.

Well I think that's enough for one night, I need to get some beauty-sleep...I'll be back tomorrow with a new post... this is fun! Zzzz goodnight!
